The Deets Express
On Thursday's post I had a lot of mistakes. I think they made the post tough to read, so I fixed them, I think. Less writing while drinking.
My brother, Brian, 20 years old, came to visit on Thursday. He showed up about 7:30 and I went to get him his birthday present. 18 bottles of the High Life, that was the booze run I made mid-O.C. We drank a bunch, went out, had a good time. He is a funny bearded man. Friday night my other brother, Bryce, 9 years old, and my dad came here. We went to see The Incredibles together and afterward Brian and got high then got pretty smashed and somehow ended up in some unusual houses at 4 in the morning. I woke Saturday morning to Bryce standing over my bed, yelling at me. After 4 hours of sleep, a screaming 9 year old is not what you want in your face. Neither me nor Brian could remember much at all of Friday night's fun. After we showered and got cleaned up, we all headed north to see my sister. We got up there, went to see The Polar Express (you see a lot G and PG rated movies with a 9 year old along), watched the Badgers choke, then went to a hockey game. It was all in all a good weekend.
The Incredibles:
It was a great family film, had a few moments for adults, and was a fun story. It's a story about a family of super heroes who are forced to begin to use their powers after years of being dormant supers in order to save the patriarch of The Incredibles from being killed by his arch nemesis. It is fun and exciting, was a bit slow at a few points, even for an adult in a kids' movie, but worth a glance if you are with a member of the younger generation. Note: Please be babysitting and not dating this person. I really enjoyed the voices of Holly Hunter and Jason Lee in the flick though. Jason Lee is hilarious, always is. And Holly Hunter has a really unique voice, something she does with "s" sounds. I like it. My favorite part was when the "bad guys" were watching people scurrying around on TV so they wouldn't get killed, one of them, in the background, says, "Alright, everytime someone runs, we do a shot." I love it when they sneak that shit into kids' movies. 7/10
The Polar Express:
The Polar Express was made the same way in which video games are made. The actors were hooked up to computers and their motion was recorded, along with their voices. So really, we aren't seeing animation, but we aren't seeing live-action either. It is somewhere in the middle. Either way, the images were incredible, it's a truly amazing film making acomplishment, even though the humans in the movie sometimes seemed to be robotic and their eyes were void of emotion. Tom Hanks was 5 of the characters in the movie, and he was fantastic. It was a very good movie, for a movie that was adapted from a short childrens' book. It was slow at times and some of the themes and the story progression seemed eratic and inconsistent, but it was still an enjoyable film. It will probably turn into a Christmas classic. Starting with Christmas 2006, expect to see this on a network every December. People who will hate this movie: Really Conservative Christians. The Polar Express refers to "the true meaning of Christmas" many, many times, and nowhere in sight are God, Mary, Jesus, Angels, or other fictional beings. Some Christians will not like that Christ was no where near a holiday that began as a celebration of his birth. Me? I could give a fuck about that, but I do think they were pushing materialism a bit too strongly. I know the Hero Boy (this is not a spoiler, 'cause most of you know how the book ends) chooses a sentimental gift from Santa, as opposed to a toy or something, but the overall drive behind the story is to discover a deeper belief in Santa. And who is Santa? He is the fat ass who gives you a bunch crap that will break or get lost before the Rose Bowl is played. Anyway, beyond all these things, The Polar Express is quite enjoyable and visually amazing. I hate the word amazing; I think it is overused, but it is fitting here.
On Saturday night, the hockey game was tied 1-1, when, with 0.1 seconds left in the 3rd period, the Bears scored a goal to win the game. A buzzer-beater in hockey? Are you kidding? It was ridiculous.
I'm not proofing this, deal with it.
